Resin Identification Code, ABS, PMMA, PC, PLA, NYLON, 7

Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS): used for pipes, house appliances, keyboards, 3D printing.

Polycarbonate (PC): used for CDs, DVDs, glass-like surfaces, automotive headlamp lenses, glasses and sunglasses lenses. Laminated can be made into bullet-proof glass. PC is known for its intrinsic relation with Bisphenol A (BPA).

Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA): commonly known as acrylic. You might have been introduced to it last year as Plexiglass or Perspex, due to the pandemic. A more economical option to PC. It can be used for aquarium windows and in medical procedures to treat cataracts and as dental prosthetics.

Polylactic acid (PLA): is considered a biodegradable plastic. It’s a versatile plastic that can be used for 3D printing. Due to its biodegradability, is used for medical implants

Nylon: there are 8 types of nylon, however nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 are the most important ones. Structure-wise they are very similar. Nylon 6 is used for cutting boards and rope. Nylon 6,6 for luggage and conveyor belts.
